The winter season is fast approaching and for those of us making early season ski trip plans, Avoriaz is always a tempting option. And in case you needed any other excuse to book an early ski trip to Avoriaz, there is also the Rock On Snow mountain festival.
More than just music, the Rock On Snow festival in Avoriaz also offers skiers and snowboarders a hands-on sneak peek at the latest gear on the market.
So if you’re looking to upgrade your winter setup or just want to clip in for the first tracks of the season (and ride a new setup for fun), the event brings together more than 80 top ski, snowboard, and accessory brands directly to the snow in the heart of the largest ski domain in the Alps (and the world!)
What is Rock On Snow Festival?
Running from Friday 11th of December to Sunday 13th of December, 2026, Rock On Snow is a mix of music and markets, with ski and snowboard gear providers offering punters the chance to check out their latest wares by day and then party by night. Based in Avoriaz, which sits in the heart of the French section of the Portes du Soleil, this is a great place to get on the snow and possibly even hint to Santa about what you want in your stocking this year.
Instead of just browsing gear indoors, Rock On Snow lets visitors take the newest models straight onto the slopes. If you were looking for an excuse to book an early December trip to Avoriaz, the details are:
- Free Gear Access: Try out the latest 2026/27 skis, snowboards, and accessories completely for free across all three days.
- Daily Hours: Testing runs daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
- Pro Advice: Chat directly with brand representatives and industry experts to compare tech specs, performance, and fit before committing to a purchase.
- Pre-Registration: Visitors are encouraged to register for their test card in advance via the official Rock On Snow website.
Test cards are start from €26 for a single day up to €69 for the three days – which is pretty good for all you can eat gear testing.

Where to Stay for Rock On Snow Avoriaz?
Avoriaz is a relatively compact resort and offers ski-in/ski-out access to the slopes from every accomodation in the resort. The event organisers are recommending Saskia Falaise, which is an excellent option in the middle of the action.
We also previously stayed at L’Amara in Avoriaz and honestly you can stick a pin in a map of the resort and have a great stay.

Is the Snow Good in Avoriaz in December?
It’s getting harder than ever to predict the snow conditions across the Alps thanks to the changing climate, but in recent years Avoriaz has seen a decent early season base. By the start of December, Avoriaz will usually see some snowfall and this is usually complimented throughout the month.
If there is low snow coverage then Avoriaz does have the luxury of good snow making facilities, meaning that even if it’s a lean year you should have plenty of terrain to ride.
Some of the highlights in Avoriaz include Le Stash, which is a fun freeride park within the resort, with plenty of options for tricks and tree skiing to really put your skis or board through their paces.
Avoriaz is also a lively resort, with good apres ski, some fantastic dining options and lots to do for families off the mountain including a swimming pool, fat bike riding and dog sledding.
